LGLC News for September 2022

Remembering Conservationist Tim Barnett

The staff and board of the Lake George Land Conservancy are deeply saddened to have lost a great friend and conservationist. Tim Barnett died on August 29 at the age of 82.

Tim was an integral part of the LGLC from the beginning, helping to create LGLC as an organization under the wing of the Adirondack Nature Conservancy and Adirondack Land Trust (ANC/ALT). He hired our first executive director, and was a driving force behind many of our earliest conservation successes. Tim continued to lend his expertise and guidance to the LGLC for many years, serving on the Board from 2000 to 2011, and was awarded the LGLC's Henry M. Rowan Conservation Award in 2013.

Lake George and the Adirondack Park as a whole owe a great deal to Tim’s conservation efforts. Tim made connections with every person he met, and his storytelling and good humor will be greatly missed.

Help us meet Ginny and Manning Smith's $300,000 Challenge for the Future of Lake George!

Earlier this year, Manning and Ginny Rowan Smith generously offered to repeat their Challenge for the Future of Lake George to benefit the LGLC's conservation efforts. The Smiths will donate $5,000 to the LGLC for every new legacy pledge received, regardless of method, amount or designation, up to a total of $300,000. For those who wish to include a specific dollar amount with their pledge that is above $5,000, they will match that amount.

So far we have met $65,000 of that challenge; we need your help to meet the rest before the deadline of November 30!
