Snowshoe, walk or ski across a mile of frozen Lake George to explore protected Dome Island and see the plaque that immortalizes John Apperson’s donation of the island for conservation in 1956.
Highly dependent on good ice conditions, this exclusive 1-mile trek (2 miles round-trip) across the lake lasts about 2 hours and includes a brief history of the island, John Apperson, and conservation on Lake George.
When: We are offering a total of four Walks - 10 AM and 2 PM on Friday, February 17, and again on February 18. Each Walk lasts about 2 hours. For safety reasons, each is limited in number, though we may be able to expand the number of participants if the ice conditions allow.
Where: Groups will leave from the LGLC office and walk a short distance down Rt. 9N to access the lake from Bixby Lane.
Fee: No fee to join waiting list. If we are able to add more people and you are invited to join, a $10 per person fee will be required to confirm your spot.
