Living Lands Summer Series
Join us every summer Wednesday evening as the Lake George Land Conservancy presents our FREE summer series Living Lands. This weekly presentation series will take an exclusive and up-close look at the wildlife and people who utilize the lands and waters of Lake George!
The Lake George Land Conservancy is an accredited not-for-profit land trust working to protect the land that protects the lake, since 1988.
2019 Summer Series
June 26- “A Hemlock Forest Story”: Charlotte Malmborg of NYS Hemlock Initiative at Cornell University will join LGLC staff for this discussion about our hemlock forests and current threats from invasives like the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid. Introduction from LGLC Conservation Manager Monica Dore.
July 3- No Presentation
July 10- “Adirondack Place Names: Why is That Thing Called That?“: Have you ever wondered, “Why is that thing called that?” Author and adventurer Erik Schlimmer will decode 100 Adirondack place names in rousing detail, supported by a backdrop of his photos from the wilderness.
July 17- “Below the surface…”: DEC Aquatic Biologist Jim Pinheiro will lead this presentation on the aquatic life of Lake George and other Adirondack lakes and ponds.
July 24- “Landscapes Lost & Found: Two Centuries of Art from Bolton Landing” – A discussion with artists Rebecca Smith and Victoria Palermo, moderated by author Michael Coffey (in partnership with the Bolton Historical Museum).
July 31- No Presentation
August 7- “Loons”: Discover the biology and behaviors of our iconic native loons with the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation.
August 14 – “When the Railroads came to Lake George”: Lake George Town and Village Historian Margy Mannix will present this story of the D&H Railway, trolley, and the incline railway on Prospect Mountain. Introduction from Board Member Jeff Brozyna
August 21- "Adirondack Wildlife Refuge": Join Wendy Hall of the ADK Wildlife Refuge as she talks about the refuge, it's animals and the work they do in the Adirondacks.

Registration is requested and if you cannot make a talk, please let us know so that we may allow others to sign up. Talks fill up fast so reserve your spots!
Please arrive at our office (4905 Lakeshore Drive) between 5:15-5:30pm to sign-in and get your seat. If you can't make it on time, please be quiet when you enter the building and find your seat. Seats are first come, first serve and remember, there are always seats up front!
The LGLC offers the Living Lands series for free, a great resource for education in our community. Donations are welcome!
