Protecting the Land that Protects the Lake since 1988

LGLC News for July 2021

Celebration 2021 invitation

Celebrate with us, July 30 - August 2

On Friday, July 30th, we invite you to be a part of this summer’s Fund-A-Need campaigns, accompanied by a brand-new video highlighting these special lands and waters. Grab a beverage, gather with friends and tune in!

Donate any time throughout the weekend, and know that when you take a walk in the cool forest or dive into the clear lake, you’ve made your impact in protecting this special place, forever. It’s that simple.

We need YOU to help us make an IMPACT for these exciting projects!

New parking lot at The Pinnacle

Improvements at The Pinnacle

The Pinnacle in Bolton Landing is now much better equipped to handle the number of guests it receives each day, thanks to the creation of a new, large parking lot and trail re-route, funded by the Town of Bolton.

Popular and beloved, The Pinnacle hosts thousands of people each year. The LGLC has been working with the Town of Bolton to manage the property for long-term sustainability, both for the land and the people using it. This new lot provides plenty of space for cars, which eliminates the safety concerns from people parking along the road, while the trail re-route will have a reduced impact the land from all of the foot traffic.

When visiting, please park only in the lot, which is 0.3 miles north of the Bolton Community Center - do not park long the road or block neighbor driveways.

Bradley's Lookout update: The trail to Bradley's Lookout is in progress and is expected to be completed within a few weeks, weather depending. We appreciate your patience as this is being built!

Female gypsy moth with egg mass

Gypsy Moth Update

The forests around Lake George are starting to look green again as many trees that were infested by gypsy moths are now putting out their second round of leaves. That's a good thing! Meanwhile, the infestation is in its last phase: egg laying.

If you are seeing these moths around your property, keep an eye on your trees - you may also see the egg masses being laid by the females (as pictured). To help reduce the population next year, scrape these egg masses off of the bark and into a bucket of warm soapy water.

Early next spring, wrap tree bark with a barrier (for example burlap or a sticky band) that will prevent newly hatched gypsy moths from climbing up into the tree canopy and eating its leaves.
