4th Annual AMY'S ADVENTURE RACE FOR THE LAKE
No matter where you are, we all run for the land and for the lake.
The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) hosted its 4th Annual Amy’s Adventure Race for the Lake this year on the weekend of Oct 1st. Due to COVID, the race was held “virtually”, meaning that runners could choose to run the usual race route at Amy’s Park Preserve in Bolton Landing or run 4.5 miles wherever they were located.
This year’s race included 72 competitors, the most of any race year, with 48 running locally at Amy’s Park and 24 running at other locations including Colorado, Maine, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and other parts of New York State.
The overall winner, Volker Burkowski, was also the defending 2018 and 2019 champion, who finished the race in 40 minutes and 9 seconds. The female winner, also a defending champion, was Kaley Bell, a fourth time Amy’s racer, who finished the race in 42 minutes and 9 seconds. The remaining top finishers were Matt Haley, Brian Dillenbeck, Sarah Haley and Donna Hamilton, who all finished the 4.5 mile rugged race in under 54 minutes.
THE RACE
A true trail run, the rugged 4.5-mile race course winds through the scenic ponds, marshes and forests of Amy's Park, amidst the idyllic Indian Brook area, a conservation priority area for the Lake George Land Conservancy.
This year, run the trail OR run wherever you can, as long as it's 4.5 miles! You're running for the LGLC no matter where you go. Runners must register to participate.
The overall winner and top male competitor from 2019's race was 2-time Amy's Race winner Volker Burkowski, who finished in 36 minutes 8 seconds. Top female competitor was Kaley Bell (pictured above left with 2nd place women's finisher AnnMary Baker), who came in 3rd overall at 41 minutes and 5 seconds.
THE AFTER PARTY
Sadly, we can't offer our typical after party at Bolton Landing Brewing Company this year due to Covid-19. BUT, the Brewery is generously giving every registrant a token for a free beer at the Brewery for you to use when you are comfortable. Cheers!
In addition, every registrant will receive the 2020 laser-cut wooden medal locally made by Adirondack Etching ( 2019 version pictured).
Upgraded registrants will receive our 2020 T-shirts. Collect them all!
The deadline has passed to get the 2020 Amy's shirt with your registration BUT we will have very limited quantities of the shirt available soon on our virtual store... stay tuned!
THE PRESERVE
Amy's Race winds its way through Amy's Park, a pristine wetland preserve that is a prime example of the benefits of land conservation. Amy's Park, named in memory of Amy Wolgin Weiner, provides habitat to countless species and filters gallons of water flowing down Indian Brook into Lake George.
Amy's Race brings attention to this beautiful, protected land, made possible by the Lake George Land Conservancy and the Wolgin Family, which is part of the LGLC's Bolton Recreational Hub Plan.
This year, proceeds from Amy's Race will benefit LGLC's protection of Bradley's Lookout, another parcel within the Bolton Hub Plan.
